January 29: Meals

Today was a pretty good day for me. I woke up with a minimal headache and got a lot of things finished at work. The most exciting part was I got everything squared away with AT&T, a problem I have been fighting for 3 months. You can read about that issue here. So I worked and then ate dinner with my family. Came home and played with Tonka and then went to the store, for groceries. Go me go. Here's what I ate today:

Breakfast: Honey Bunches of Oats w/skim milk

Lunch: Tuna melt on onion bagel (I was out of bread), pickle,
mandarin oranges

Dinner:Biscuits & gravy, french toast, juice

Snack: Handful of trailmix

January Book Review: The Late Bloomer's Revolution

The Late Bloomer's Revolution, by Amy Cohen, is the 2nd book I've finished this month. I have to say I was quite disappointed with this one. I originally came across it in an article I read on MSNBC. I can't find the article now, but included in it was a complete chapter of the book. It kept my attention, I laughed and I could relate. It left me wanting to read more and a few days later I bought the book.

The Late Bloomer's Revolution is the story of a New York City girl, Amy Cohen, who's life turns out completely different than she plans. She feels as if Life has left her behind. She is in her late 30's, single, and recently lost her job as a TV writer. The story is mostly of her dating life and the ups and downs. But it also discusses how she handles her mother's passing away and finding new employment. There were times I related with her in the book, mostly with her dating frustrations and how she tries to relate to her married friends. But the remainder of the book I just wanted to slap her silly. It's so depressing. There is one chapter in which she goes on and on about riding a bike and how when she was young she went to a 'biking birthday party' but she didn't know how to actually ride a bike and she falls down. Blah. I think the saddest part is that the book is based on the author's life. I mean we all get down sometimes, I totally understand that, I've expressed my frustrations with life on my personal blog on more than one occassion. But, come on. I really struggled to finish this one.

My expectations were probably too high for this book and that is the reason I didn't care for it. Although, I'm guessing there are many women out there that could really relate and would thoroughly enjoy it. I would give this book a 2 on a scale of 1-5. It just wasn't for me I guess.

Since I've finished this book way ahead of schedule I supposed my next book, Nineteen Minutes, will be my official February book. And it's a longer one (480 pages) so it will probably take me the whole month to finish! Now I just have to remember to borrow it from my sister.

January 27: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

January 24: Meals & Goals

Well, I suck and didn't take pictures of the things I ate today. So I'll just tell you. For breakfast I had an onion bagel with cream cheese. At lunch I ate a bowl of macaroni salad and I didn't have any dinner. Oh and I also had half of a slice of an apple pie my Mom made. It was pretty tasty. I'll be better with pictures tomorrow. Oh and PS remember the picture of my fridge? If you don't you can find it here. Anyway, I bought some groceries today and now it's full! Yay! First time ever!

And an update on my other goals, I have flossed everyday! Go me go. And I'm also making progress in my next book, I'm about 2/3 finished and will do another review once I've read it all. I'm getting a little bored with it to be honest, but I really want to finish, so we'll see how it goes.

We did a had an early dinner today. When I say 'we' I mean my family and me. January Book Review: The Gargoyle

For my book this month I read Andrew Davidson's The Gargoyle. I really liked reading this book and is one that I will probably read again somewhere down the road. The Gargoyle would be a perfect airplane read. I can get completely engrossed in a book when I am on a plane. I think it's because I have absolutely no interest in talking with the strangers around me and do my best to tune them all out. But back to the book.

The beginning is a little brutal. Not because it's difficult to read, but because it's so descriptive you can almost feel the words. The first part of the book describes a car crash that the narrator experiences and if you can make it through that you won't want to put it down. I loved each of the stories that Marianne told because they kept my attention. I couldn't wait to continue reading to hear the next part of each one. I also liked the way that the narrator goes back and forth determining whether Marianne is totally insane, or if they really happened. I love how they all tie in to one another, and in the end when he tells Marianne Engel he loves her. Aww. So sweet. Here's an excerpt from that part.

"...I spent my entire life waiting for you, Marianne, and I didn't even know it until you arrived. Being burned was the best thing that ever happened to me because it brought you. I wanted to die but you filled me with so much love that it overflowed and I couldn't help but love you back. It happened before I even knew it and now I can't imagine not loving you..."

I'm not really familiar with writing book reviews, or any reviews for that matter so bare with me if that one kind of sucked. Ha ha, maybe I'll get better in the upcoming months.

Even if I haven't done very well with a healthier body, I am right on track to a healthier mind. Go me go.

February's book will be The Late Bloomer's Revolution by Amy Cohen.

January 17: Lunch, Dinner & Dessert

I cleaned my house this morning and it is sparkling! I even shampooed the carpets. Go me go. After I cleaned and showered I finished my book for this month and I'll do a review in another post. But here is what I ate for lunch, dinner, and dessert.

Lunch: Pepperoni & pineapple pizza, 6oz Dr. Pepper

Dinner: BBQ Steak, corn, new potatoes, peaches

Dessert: Butterscotch pudding

January 17: Breakfast

I'm so on the blog post ball this morning! Tonka was fixed yesterday so he woke me up bright and early at 6am with his wimpering. The poor little guy. I gave him some of his medicine and then we went back to bed for a bit. That didn't last long and at 8:30am I headed to Walgreen's for a prescription and a few other things. I came home and had breakfast and now I'm going to clean my place because it is a stye.

Breakfast: Frosted Mini Wheats and Skim milk

Fiji Water (x2)

January 15 & 16: I'm terrible

Well I've missed yesterdays post, I know, but it was for good reason. I was asleep most of the day. I have pretty terrible migraines, and yesterday I just couldn't take it anymore. So I went to the doctor and got a shot which promptly knocked me out. So as far as pictures go, I don't have any. And let it be known I ate zero foods that were good for me. Same goes for today. Zero pictures and zero healthy foods. For breakfast I didn't eat anything, for lunch I ate 1 taquito and a Slurpee from 7-11 and for dinner I ate a piece of pizza. :( I guess I can always eat healthier tomorrow.

January 14: Lunch, Dinner, Dessert

Hello hello. Here is what I ate today. My headache is back and I didn't really feel much like eating so I missed breakfast. I'm still working on figuring out what camera settings make my food look the tastiest. It's weird how food can look so delicious in person and then after I load the pictures it doesn't look so great.

Lunch: 16oz Chai Tea, bran muffin (I ended up having 1/2 of each)

Dinner: Beef back rib (x2), Dad's pasta salad, baked beans, 12oz Coke

Dessert: Dryer's Chocolate Fudge Chunk

January 13: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

So as I look at the pictures of everything I ate today I am just totally depressed. I mean good hell no wonder I look and feel like I do. But no matter how embarrassed I may be by these photos here is everything I ate today. I'm going to be working out formatting over the next few posts, so forgive me if they aren't uniform for a few days.

Breakfast: 32oz Coke and 1 Pop-tart

Lunch: Handful of guacamole chips dipped in cream cheese & 2 glasses of H20

Dinner: Taco Salad & 12oz Coke

Not that this is an excuse by any means (obviously I could have chose to buy different foods) but this is my fridge/freezer. My options are various (most likely) expired condiments or ice cream. SAD. You know that ice cream is on the up and up though. HA. You can always count on me for fresh ice cream.

January 12: A late start

Well, obviously I've gotten a late start on my 2009 resolution. I had originally intended for this blog and first post to go up January 1, but better late than never, so here goes. Starting tomorrow I will be posting a picture of everything I eat. Sounds boring, however I've seen it done on a few blogs and they are fairly interesting. My hope is that if everyone sees exactly what I eat each day I am more likely to eat less junk. I do not have any weight loss goals. These never work for me. My only goal is a healthier body and mind.

I have done only so-so with my eating less junk, but I have done very well with a healthier mind. I'm almost finished with this month's book (The Gargoyle) and I'm excited to start a new one. I haven't decided what my next one will be, but I have a stack to choose from on my shelf. If anyone has suggestions I'd love to hear them!

This blog may not interest everyone, but that's okay! Also, if anyone has any suggestions and what they'd be interested (or not interested) in seeing on this blog please share!
